Wow! This tale is positively hallucinatory in it's imagery. I wanted to see what you did with the maggots as (after reading the interview at the back) i'm a little like yourself in that if somebody asked me what scares me i'd be at a loss. I'd always have to go for the next best thing which is 'what makes my skin crawl?'. Yep, twas maggots! When i was a small child and i'd be off playing with friends we always seemed to end up fascinated with dead animals that we'd occassionly encounter. I remember flipping one over with a stick and being shocked at the stench that assailed me, and that the fur wasn't soild but a writihing mass of maggots. This image and how it made my skin crawl has stayed with me until now, and i'm pleased to say you definitely managed to evoke all these memories in the story and make my skin crawl.

Another thing i was reminded of in the story was the awesome claymation scenes in Evil Dead of the demons decaying at accelerated rate.

I won't say any more as i don't want to spoil anybody elses enjoyment (hopefully my references have been cryptic enough), but this book rocks Shane. I'm looking forward to the forthcoming Deadite novellas as they certainly sound like a lot of fun, especially Licking The Toad.

I haven't read the second featured story in the book so i'll leave that for another post.

I read the second tale last night and boy is it creepy. It's not often that a horror book gets me jumpy and creeped out. I'm also pleased that the two go hand in hand and give a better understanding of the events in each one. The second tale answered all the questions in my mind that i was disappointed i didn't get answers to in Infinity House. Can't wait for more as these are a lot of fun.
